History:

Since 1949, Institute of Public Health has aimed at providing Pakistan with the best professional health experts. Institute of Public Health focuses on making the country a disease and epidemic free community in accordance with the International standards. Institute of Public Health is recognized by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. Further, the Institute is being maintained by the Government of Punjab and is under the administrative control of the Health Department. This Institute is becoming a source of inspiration for the doctors planning a career in various specialties of public health in Pakistan and abroad. The graduates of the Institute are adding a new dimension to the public health programs by virtue of their abilities of leadership, teamwork, management, community involvement and advocacy for health promotion as well as disease prevention and control.

Over the past six decades, the Institute of Public Health has evolved into a premier institution for training community health professionals, equipping them for health administration, teaching, and fieldwork. It has played a crucial role in developing health planners and administrators who have contributed significantly to the health sector across Punjab. The institute remains at the forefront of public health education and research, continuing its legacy of enhancing disease prevention and health promotion in the region.

The official journal of IPH, Pakistan Journal of Health (PJOH) dates back to 1950. Its first volume is archieved at the welcome Library UK. Its volume 3-18 of  PJOH are archieved at The New York Academy of Medicine Library. It is a quarterly, peer-reviewed medical journal dedicated to advancing research and knowledge in public health and medicine. PJOH has been at the forefront of disseminating high-quality medical research and fostering academic excellence in the medical community.
